A small Chicago suburb, Glencoe, Illinois is home to less than 10,000 people. But that small size doesn’t stop it from being one of the most popular town’s in Illinois to live, especially families, schools, and safety. Located in Cook County, the suburban area features some of the state’s most sought-after homes and recognized buildings, including architecture built by Frank Lloyd Wright and George Washington Maher. Consistently ranked for best schools in the nation, the New Trier Township High School, Sunset Ridge Elementary School, and Middlefolk Primary School stand out, although every school in the area is known for its reputation of being a great place for children to learn and to be prepared for life after school.
Beautiful pools help residents beat the summer heat, offering public and private settings that are as attractive as the verdant natural landscape surrounding them. And, when you want to get into the beautiful North Shore nature, nothing is better than taking a walk at the community’s public beaches and lakes, riding a bike through lush trails, or getting out on the water in a boat. Just to the west of Lake Michigan, much of Glencoe is surrounded by Cook County Forest Preserve, a 1,200 acre area of protected land. Beautiful golf courses make up the rest of Glencoe’s open space, including area favorites like Lake Shore Country Club and Skokie Country Club, as well as the public Glencoe Golf Club.
Dominated by single-family homes, the community is held together by local amenities, such as the post office, library, performing arts theatre, shopping and the Metra train station which allows residents to easily get to Chicago as needed. Residents in Glencoe, however, love many of the local restaurants and coffee shops, including Dewey’s and Red Hen.
